Podtatranská Cycle Route
The Podtatranská Cycle Route is one of the longest and most scenic cycle paths beneath the High Tatras, connecting numerous Tatra villages. The route leads from Podbanské, through Tatranská Polianka, Tatranská Lomnica, and Tatranská Kotlina, finishing in Ždiar. It is suitable for experienced cyclists, as well as for leisure riders who can divide the route into several stages. It is marked in red. The surface is a combination of asphalt, forest roads and gravel, making it ideal for mountain or trekking bikes. The route offers magnificent views of the High Tatras.
Tichá and Kôprová Valleys
Both cycling routes begin at the same point, on a forest asphalt road about 120 m above the bridge over the Belá stream, behind the gamekeeper’s lodge in Podbanské. After leaving the main road II/537, the paths run parallel for 1.7 km through gently undulating terrain to a junction by the Tichá lodge (983 m a.s.l.), where you turn left into the Tichá Valley route or right into the Kôprová Valley route. The Tichá Valley continues along a gentle straight for 6 km to point 1114 m a.s.l. (wooden forester’s hut and parking), from where it starts to climb slightly to its final point – a timber depot at the end of the valley (3.7 km segment). The total length of the Tichá Valley route is 11.4 km. The Kôprová Valley route continues from the lodge with a gentle climb and flat stretches (6.6 km), along the Kôprovský stream to Kmeť’s Waterfall (1280 m a.s.l.), where the marked route ends. Both routes are suitable for family trips with children due to their low difficulty. A mountain bike or trekking bike is ideal for this route.
